Welcome to the Nirvana - Best of the Box Set Radio Special….from Seattle, WA…my name is harms…. You just heard Kurt Cobain from Nirvana talking about what turned out to be Nirvana's "breakout" song…. Smells Like Teen Spirit.
It was a special version recorded in 1991 that was first made available on the critically acclaimed Nirvana Box Set…"With The Lights Out" that was released in 2004. This November we are getting a brand new compilation that gives us the very best from the box set, PLUS 3 previously unreleased bonus cuts. This hour we are going to take a look at the Best of the Box and get some insight on Nirvana and their legacy from the people that were closest to the band and their music.
Another Standout track from the box set was a song called "Old Age" which originally was an outake from the Nevermind recording sessions here it is on the Nirvana - Best of the Box Set Radio Special.

You just heard a solo acoustic performance of "Lithium" that originally aired on KAOS radio down in Olympia , WA in 1990…there are actually 2 songs from that session that appear on the Best of the Box comp that is coming out this November.
When the box set was put together in 2004, one of the leading consultants was "Bleach" producer Jack Endino….here is Endino talking about when then band came in in 1992 to work on some songs that would eventually end up on In Utero

In 1993 Nirvana released what was eventually it's last studio record. It was recorded by the legendary Steve Albini who at the time had worked with all sorts of bands of bands that were considered "alternative" before Nirvana made "alternative" a household names….these bands range from the Pixies to Helmet.
