SONNY STITT Blows The Blues (2013 200gram Analogue Productions limited edition 8-track stereo LP mastered at Sterling Sound and pressed at QRP on 200-gram black vinyl. Originally released in 1960, highlightsamong the originals are HomeFree, a minor key blues, and Hymnal, a 'sanctified' blues based on an old hymn. Sonny is also at his earthiest and most moving in the very slow blues in G, Morning After. High quality gatefold picture with originalcover artwork. Both the sleeve and vinyl remain in near mint condition)
TRACKLISTING AND EXTRA INFORMATION
Sonny Stitt led a number of excellent record dates in 1959, especially at the end of the year when he produced three LPs for Verve over a span of three sessions with pianist Lou Levy, bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Mel Lewis.
Playing alto sax throughout this album, Stitt hardly sounds like a Charlie Parker clone, something that unfortunately was a frequent claim by tin-eared critics throughout a fair portion of his career. The music includes several potent originals, especially "Hymnal Blues" and the slow, powerful "Morning After Blues."
